Extensive Reading Activity for the Primary Classroom

Here have two amazing reading activities using ICTs.

Our first extensive reading activity is for 3rd or 4th of Primary. This story narrates the adventures of Geronimo Stilton in the subway. This story is based in the classic story of the Phantom of the Opera.
First of all, we are going to introduce the book and the basic vocabulary of the story with our glossary.

Children will read individually during the first fifteen minutes of the class. Then the teacher will ask them questions about what they have read to check that they have understood it.
At the weekend they will carry on their books to read it at home.

The teacher will try that they read the book at the same time because this is the way that allows the teacher review what they read and answer the questions or solve the problems that can appear.
When they will have finished the book they will start with the activities.

Pupils of 3rd have to do an interactive book with the iPad, all the activity will be directed and supervised by the teacher because they need to learn how to create this interactive book. Despite of this fact they will choose all the activities and will take all the decisions about their activities.

The glossary is inside the app of the book, you can see it in your iphone, ipad, pc or smartphone if you download tiny tap or enter in the webpage of Tiny Tap. This is the link of the activity of Geronimo Stilton made by the kids, the have made the glossary with the most important words too.

Pupils of 6th of Primary will make another activity related with their book: “Phantom of the opera”. The activity will consist firstly in perform phantom of the opera with costumes and dialogues in English. They will show their performance to preschoolers, who will make a mask of a ghost. They really will enjoy it.

Here have the songs of the opera:

Then they will make an interactive mural of their story with the video of their performance and pictures and a little information about the characters of the story.

The activity will be directed and supervised by the teacher but they will be free to create their customs, dialogues etc.
